Tekkon Kinkreet
I picked up the big one volume of Tekkon Kinkreet (which I'm probably spelling wrong) and am liking it a lot. I like how Matsumoto doesn't try to stay on model ever, and apparently regulates rulers to panel borders like I do. While I was in Stumptown I'm pretty sure Matt Bernier told me I need to stay on model more, advice I will work on applying, but I wonder if he'd say the same thing about Tekkon Kinkreet?

Anyway, art!

I saw part of the movie at my editors place at last fall's Stumptown, but as per usaul of staying up late during cons if I'm not drawing at 2am I'm sleeping. I'll hopefully see it someday, it's almost impossible (impossible!) for me to watch movies anymore, my time is all in bits. So basically if my lady wants to watch it.

man, keeping consistant is sometimes difficult. sometimes max guys head things change length and look crazy...other times they look kinda small. anyway, i like your stuff the way it is.

We should shake on it and say to each other "never change"

Awesome!

And I'm totally for being off model and junk, sure, you try to stay consistent, but I try to keep it in the mood/moment more than "does this head look exactly the same as this one" etc etc

Hope to see you at ECCC too!

*lol* After 7 years of drawing comics I never learned to stay on model. In fact... I'm not even sure what "on model" was for some of my characters. 0_o

I wouldn't worry too much about it, man. Your style is loose enough that any "inconsistency" looks like it's part of the style and adds to the charm. Really, that's how I've always viewed it!

Yeah, it's probably more important just to stay "on story" rather than "on model"

I just finished it last night, I liked it, it has such a flavor all its own.

I believe it's cause the guy lived in france for a while and got really influenced by the amazing French comics scene.

i think its something you have to worry about in animation, but comics, you can get away it!

I actually did a turnaround for a guy to model at work (like, for a video game type thing, for fun) and I realized that I couldn't just give the character random spikes off the back of her head like normal, I actually need to have a basis for it. Actually I realize that now, so I guess he's going to have trouble.

But yeah, comics, you can totally get away with it.

Yeah, honestly consistancy shouldnt be a huge deal. Characters changing create a certain flow and add to the overall feeling of the comic. I use it to convey different emotions and it helps to tackle different scenarios uniquely.

That's actually a big challenge for me, to use art even more so for the story telling effect. I'm usaully content to move the "camera" around and just move the characters. Then again, maybe it's just something I'll grow into.
